Hints for the First Island - Un
Note: These hints will all work for the first island of the
actual game, or the demo version (downloadable from these pages). The only
difference between the actual game and demo are the extra-bonus items you
find at the end of the demo: The Axe of Obfuscation, the Moood Plate armor,
and the Pyromania psionic ability. These occur in the actual game as well,
but not until much later.
- Starting off on the first island, it's important you duck into the old
man's cave, to the southeast of your starting location. In there, talk to
the old man. He may be asleep, so you'll have to wait for him to wake up.
From there, ask him "help" and he'll point you to a secret room in his hut.
There you can equip the goodies you find. Now you'll be ready to take on the
world, or at least the monsters you'll find wandering the surface of the
island.
- An important thing to do - vital, even - is to go to the Northeast corner
of the island. Remember the note you found when you arrived on Un? The
mysterious "N" (what could that stand for?) wishes you to accept his
challenge, and the reward he'll offer is worth it. Step into the glowing
blue mirror for the first "Vex Chamber." If you have trouble with it, you
better find another game to play. Trust me, the "Vex Chambers" get much
harder as the game progresses.
- The first island, named "Un", has two cities on it, Elba to the North and
Niac to the South. A very large mountain range which stretches the breadth
of Un separates the two towns. Elba is a more friendly, less-militant place
which will easily allow you entrance. The other will not let just anyone in,
and until you find out what it is that's required of all inhabitants of Niac
it's best to stay in Elba. The guards outside Niac will kill you with
impunity.
- In your explorations, be sure to check out the Southeastern edge of the
island for another friend who can help you out.
- There are two secret areas (accessible through secret walls) in the
underground tunnel you will discover. Be sure to find explore them both.
- On one of the Eastern beaches you'll find a book next to a bunch of
crosses. It tells a peculiar story...
- There are two main quests on the island, and herein lies the essence of
the non-linear story line. You may do either quest, or both. Citizens of
Elba will send you on both quests, and each require finding a townsperson of
Niac.
